- Reichlich Bindegewebe mit Infiltraten von Lymphozyten, Plasmazellen,
neutrophilen Granulozyten

Traumatisch oder postoperativ durch nicht resorbierbares Nahtmaterial,
früher auch durch Talkkristalle (Handschuhpuder)
58-year-old male suffered from intervertebral disk disease (T12 - L1) with herniation of the disk 8 weeks before undergoing excision of the prolapsed disk (specimen from surgery).
- Synovial membrane with mixed inflammatory infiltrate consisting of lymphocytes, fibroblasts, plasma cells and histiocytes.
- In addition, numerous multinucleated giant cells are present containing in part birefringent, crystal-like foreign bodies (Fremdmaterial). The latter are found ubiquitously in many of the synovial membrane fragments.
Pathogenesis: Foreign body granulomas are observed after traumas and surgeries (suture material, implants, vascular grafts and in earlier day’s talcum powder from gloves).
