Claudicatio intermittens; verstirbt nach Myokardinfarkt. Autopsiepräparat.
Mehrere Gefässquerschnitte
- Media der Arterie
verschmälert, parallel
gerichtete elastische Fasern
- Elastica interna aufgesplittert
- Intima verdickt, fibrosiert,
eingelagerte Cholesterinkristalle (teilweise herausgelöst) und
Kalk
- Lumen eingeengt, zusätzlich eingeengt oder verlegt durch Thrombose
- Thrombose herdförmig am Rand durch Granulationsgewebe organisiert

III 36
76-year-old male patient suffered from peripheral vascular disease with intermittent claudication.
He succumbed to myocardial infarction (specimen from autopsy).
- Four sections of coronary arteries are shown, all exhibiting atheromatous plaques. A fibrous plaque is observed in the intima of the artery
to the left. In the vicinity of the thickened intima (Intima) the internal elastic layer
of the media (Elastica interna) is destroyed and the media
(Media) shows thinning. These
changes of the media are observed in all the sections displayed.
- The top section to the right shows an artery exhibiting a pronounced stenosis. A fibrofatty plaque is present consisting of a large fibrous
cap and a necrotic lipid core.
- The arteries in the middle and the bottom exhibit fibrofatty plaques. In addition, the lumen is nearly completely occluded by a partly
organized thrombus (Thrombose). The latter shows some recanalization at the edges.
